Laurel High School basketball standout Deshon Bayless signed a scholarship with Lawson State Community College located in Birmingham, Alabama.

Wesley Medical Center Names Lee Byrd Director of Laboratory Services

Wesley Medical Center recently named Lee Byrd Director of Laboratory Services. Byrd has been employed with Wesley Medical Center since 2008 and has served as Interim Laboratory Director since Nov. 26, 2012.

Byrd brings 23 years of clinical experience to the position, including previous experience as a lab director. He is certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)CM and a Technologist in Hematology by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and has also been certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the National Crediting Agency.

The following is a news release from William Carey University:

Josh Holifield of Laurel, son of Dana and Connie Holifield, recently received The Randolph J. and Brenda H. Ross Award for Excellence in Anatomy given to a first-year medical student at William Carey University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Tommy King, president of WCU, presented it to him during Honors Day Convocation on April 24. The award, established by Dr. Ross and his wife, is given to the medical student who has the highest Grade Point Average in anatomy.

A fundraiser for Sydney Holifield will be held on April 27 at the old Myrick school 4 way stop, Lower Myrick Road from 9 a.m. til 2 p.m. Smokehouse chicken plates $10 in advance, Silent Auction, baked goods, space jumps, face painting, selling raffle tickets for a Benelli 12 gauge shotgun $5 each, Entertainment by Centertree band (Kevin Price), Kristie and Sam Sumrall, Bob Barger, Alex Landrum and Mr. Silly Socks. Handpainted door hangers for sale and homemade lollipop stand.

With nearly a lifetime of basketball experience, Marcus R. Price has been selected as Laurel High School’s new boys’ basketball coach. Growing up a coach’s son, Price has been exposed to the game nearly his entire life. Writing scouting reports and watching hours of game film at an early age instilled in him an in-depth knowledge of the game.
