JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- One person was injured and a portion of a roadway was damaged early Saturday morning when a tractor-trailer truck left Interstate-59 in Jones County and struck a bridge.
Jones County officials say the 18-wheeler, which was carrying electronics and appliances bound for Best Buy, was headed south around midnight when it ran off the interstate near the Sanford Road exit and struck several support beams for a bridge on the northbound side.
Both northbound lanes were closed and traffic was re-routed.
Officials said it could take several hours to clean-up the scene.
Late Saturday morning, the right lane on the northbound side was opened to traffic. Officials were urging motorists to use caution when driving through the area.
The driver of the truck, identified only as a 30-year-old white male, was injured and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
His condition is unknown.
