Laurel man headed to prison for possession of child pornography

THE FOLLOWING IS A PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE

A Laurel resident is going to prison for possession of child pornography, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today. 

Wayne McLain, age 54, of 624 East 20th Street, Laurel, pleaded guilty to possession of child porn before Judge Billy Joe Landrum in Jones County Circuit Court Monday.

Sons of Confederate Veterans Salute Major Amos McLemore, CSA Jones County

April is Confederate Heritage month in Mississippi and the Honor Guard of the Jones County Rosin Heels, Camp #227 Sons of Confederate Veterans, fired a volley in Honor of Major Amos McLemore, CSA, who was killed at the Deason House in Ellisville in 1863 by a deserter from the Confederate Army.

This is only one of the many Honors which will be paid to Confederate Veterans throughout Jones and the surrounding counties during the month.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which that date falls as National Police Week. May 15, led by Chief Tyrone Stewart, the Laurel Police Department held a Peace Officers Memorial Day Ceremony in the front parking lot of the department’s headquarters where a memorial wreath was placed at the base of the flag pole in memory of fallen officers across the country and Jones County.

Thursday night, May 9, motorists traveling on Interstate Highway 59 could see orange flames shooting 30 or more feet in the air from the back parking lot of the Ronald E. Whitehead Advanced Technology Center at the Howard Technology Park in Ellisville as 40 volunteer firefighters from across Jones County participated in a LP-Gas Tank Fire Simulation. The LP-Gas Tank Fire Simulation was the hands-on portion of the LP-Gas Tactics and Live Fire Operations training class administered by the Mississippi State Fire Academy.

Attorney General Jim Hood is warning consumers and businesses to be aware of a recent email scam purporting to help overseas military personnel with packages in the U.S.. 

Laurel boil water notice lifted for all but six homes

LAUREL, MS (WDAM)- The boil water advisory for Laurel issued by the Mississippi Department of Health has been lifted for all but six homes, according to officials with United Water.

United Water, the company contracted by the city to operate its water and sewer systems, issued a statement on Monday that read in part, "laboratory test results showed that the drinking water quality meets all regulatory requirements. These results were submitted to the Mississippi Department of Health for verification."

Portion of Laurel lifted from boil water notice

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)- Mississippi state health officials lifted a portion of the City of Laurel from the precautionary boil water notice in Jones County on Sunday.

Customers on 9th Street, North 11th, and North 12th Avenue are still under the boil water advisory. All other portions of Laurel are cleared from the advisory.

Tests performed by the Mississippi Department of Health Public Health Laboratory indicate the water is now safe to drink.
