South Central Now Offers LabBand Surgery
A free seminar about LapBand Surgery is set for November 8th.
A 2011 study reported that for the 7th year in a row, Mississippi has maintained the highest adult obesity rate in America. One of the fastest growing weight loss surgeries performed in the United States is the LapBand procedure. This procedure reduces the amount of food the stomach can hold at one time by placing a device over the top portion of the stomach. Chad Saul, M.D., General Surgeon with Laurel Surgery Clinic, performs the LapBand procedure.
“The ideal candidate for LapBand surgery is a patient who is suffering from morbid obesity,” Dr. Saul states. “Especially to a level where they’re developing other disease processes like high blood pressure or diabetes related to their obesity.” Even before having LapBand surgery, there are steps that patients need to take to assist in them having a successful outcome.
“We have put a team in place to help us with psychological evaluations to make sure we discuss any problems that may be related to eating from that aspect,” stated Dr. Saul. “We have a nutritionist in place to assist in making nutritional decisions before you get your LapBand and certainly after you get your LapBand.”
Family practice physicians and internists also help with the diabetes, high blood pressure and other obesity related illnesses that might need management before and after getting the actual LapBand Surgery.
If you think you are a candidate for LapBand surgery, South Central Regional Medical Center invites you to attend a free LapBand seminar on Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. (Noon). Dr. Saul will conduct the free seminar at South Central Place in Laurel. The seminar is free, but registration is required by calling Lorrie Thompson, Bariatric Coordinator at Laurel Surgery Clinic, at (601) 649-7802.
