Dr. Wesley Girod Performs First Single-Incision Gallbladder Surgery in South Mississippi

Dr. Wesley Girod, a general surgeon at Southern Surgical Associates, recently removed a patient’s gall bladder using only a single, inch-long incision camouflaged by the belly button. The advanced robotics-assisted procedure, which was performed at Wesley Medical Center using the da Vinci Si Surgical System, is the first of its kind in south Mississippi.

Free Community Program To Feature Education on Taking Control of Diabetes

Pine Belt residents are invited to attend a free educational program on May 30 at noon to learn about taking control of diabetes, featuring Diabetes Patient and A1C Champions® Program member Jim Murphy.

Murphy, a member of the Sanofi-supported A1C Champions® Program, will visit the Diabetes Care Center at Forrest General’s LiveWell Center to share diabetes self-management and lifestyle strategies based on extensive training and his personal experience living with diabetes.

Forrest General Earns ACR Accreditation

Forrest General Earns ACR Accreditation

Forrest General has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology. CT scanning — sometimes called CAT scanning — is a highly accurate medical test that uses cross-sectional 2D and 3D images to help physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.
While this accreditation focuses on one type of radiology test, this recognition by the ACR further demonstrates Forrest General’s commitment to provide quality comprehensive radiology services for the Pine Belt.

American Heart Association representative Earl Coleman Jr. recently presented Wesley Medical Center with the Silver Achievement Award for their participation in the Get With The Guidelines® Heart-Failure program. This recognition means that Wesley Medical Center has reached their goal of treating heart failure patients to high core standards set forth by the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology.
