A Laurel resident is going to prison for possession of child pornography, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today. 

Wayne McLain, age 54, of 624 East 20th Street, Laurel, pleaded guilty to possession of child porn before Judge Billy Joe Landrum in Jones County Circuit Court Monday.

A former hospice worker in Laurel is going to prison for felony exploitation of a vulnerable person, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

Lena M. Hinson, 50, of Laurel pleaded guilty Monday before Jones County Circuit Court Judge Billy Joe Landrum to one count of felony embezzlement and one count of felony exploitation of a vulnerable person.

FBI Requests Public's Assistance

Eleven individuals were indicted this week on federal drug charges, U.S. Ten of the defendants were arrested, April 4 and police are still on the lookout for one who is still at large.

Police are searching for Fredrick Charles McCaulp, 21, of Brookhaven. McCaulp is charged with three counts of possession with intent to distribute more than 28 grams of crack cocaine. If anyone has information concerning his whereabouts, contact the FBI in Jackson at 601-948-5000.

The City of Laurel releases 2011 Crime Report

LAUREL, MS (WDAM)- (WDAM) Laurel-The 2011 Laurel crime statistics are out, and indicate that all offenses (except for forcible rape) are down.  There were zero criminal homicides in Laure for 2011.  Robbery was down by ten percent, larceny reduced by 11 percent, and assault decreased by a near 50 percent. 

Laurel Police Chief, Tyrone Stewart, credits the decrease in crime to the hard work done by Laurel's fifty-five police officers.
