Wesley Relay for Life Event Raises Over $16,000

In memory of Dr. Glenn Smith and in honor of all those battling cancer, Wesley Medical Center hosted “Light the Track,” a relay event held May 10, to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.

“This is the second annual Light the Track event honoring Dr. Glenn Smith,” said Katherine Pittman, Director of Customer Service for Wesley Medical Center. “Last year we raised over $10,000 and we were thrilled top that this year.”

The following is a news release from the City of Laurel:

With the final day of school behind them, kids can begin the summer with a dip in Laurel’s public swimming pools. Visit one of our three Laurel pools open for your swimming pleasure during the summer beginning June 1. The two outdoor pools are Knaive Pool at the L.T. Ellis Center located at 610 Munson St. and Oak Park Pool on Queensburg Ave. The pools are open from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday for public swim. Admission is $2.

American Cancer Society Marks 100 Years of Saving Lives from Cancer

The American Cancer Society will mark its 100th birthday on May 22, 2013. The Society is the nation’s largest voluntary healthcare non-profit organization and the country’s largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.8 billion. Nearly 14 million Americans who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will have the chance to celebrate a birthday this year thanks in part to the Society’s efforts.
